Jeep Wrangler Oil Type Recommended by the Manufacturer

Jeep recommends its Mopar brand of oil, called MaxPro, for your Jeep Wrangler oil type. Mopar meets Jeep’s high standards for keeping your engine in top condition. Your Jeep Wrangler oil type also depends on the size of the engine under the hood and the engine type.

You have five engines available for the current generation of Jeep Wranglers, from 2018 to now, and the Wrangler oil type and capacity varies a bit depending on the engine.

  • 3.6L V6: 0W-20 and 5 quarts
  • 2.0L Turbo I4: 5W-30 and 5 quarts
  • 3.0L EcoDiesel: 5W-40 and 9 quarts
  • 2.0L Turbo Hybrid 4xe: 5W-30 and 5 quarts
  • 6.4L Hemi V8: 0W-40 and 7 quarts on the Rubicon

Jeep highly recommends full synthetic oil for the best results. Consult with your owner’s manual or driver information screen to see what kind of oil Jeep recommends for your SUV.

Synthetic vs. Conventional Oil for Your Jeep Wrangler

You have a choice when you bring your vehicle in for an oil change at Superior Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram of Conway. Your vehicle can take conventional (regular) oil or full synthetic oil. Our service team highly recommends full synthetic oil because it better suits your Jeep Wrangler engine and it will last longer.

Full synthetic oil costs more money upfront when you pay for an oil change. However, the oil change interval is longer with full synthetic oil. You’ll still need oil changes every 3,000 to 5,000 miles for older vehicles using conventional oil. But when you fill your engine with full synthetic motor oil, you may not need to change the oil until after 7,500 miles or even as long as 10,000 miles!

You’ll save money over the long term since you have fewer oil changes in Benton thanks to full synthetic oil. For example, let’s say a conventional oil change costs $70 while full synthetic is $95. You’ll need two oil changes for conventional versus just one for full synthetic, meaning you’ll spend $140 versus $95 in the same time period. You’ll save $45 with full synthetic motor oil! Your individual costs will vary.

OEM parts, including MaxPro oil and a Jeep Wrangler oil filter, are best for your Jeep because the manufacturer specifically formulates the oil for its engines. Also, having the right Jeep Wrangler oil type can help maintain your SUV’s warranty.

How to Reset the Oil Change Light on a Jeep Wrangler

Once your oil change is done, our technicians will reset the oil change light on your Jeep Wrangler. However, if you perform oil changes on your own, there are two ways in which you can do this:

  1. Turn the ignition to the position marked ON/RUN. However, don’t turn so far you start the engine.
  2. In the instrument cluster display, you’ll find several options. Select “Vehicle Info” and after that “Oil Life.”
  3. Press and hold “OK” for a little bit. This should reset the Jeep oil light back to 100%.

The second way follows these steps:

  1. Just like before, turn the ignition to ON/RUN, but again, you’ll want to avoid starting the engine.
  2. Fully press the accelerator pedal three times within 10 seconds.
  3. Place the ignition in OFF/LOCK.
  4. If you still see the indicator light on after you follow either method, this means that the oil change indicator system didn’t reset to normal. We suggest carefully repeating the procedure a few times.

If this still doesn’t reset the light, bring your Jeep Wrangler in for service. Also, when you reset the engine oil change light on your Jeep Wrangler, make sure you actually performed an oil change. Otherwise, your vehicle’s oil light indicator will be inaccurate and your service intervals will be off.
